Dragon's Blood
A Little Mystery. A Lot of Intention.
The stories behind the pour and more.
Hello, Mystic Tribe! 💜
Welcome to our very first issue of The Mystic Journal!
I've been wanting to create a space where we can go a little deeper than what's written on a candle label. A place where I can share why I choose certain fragrances, why some stones just seem to belong together, and how the colors and botanicals become part of each candle's personality.
Because here's the thing about Mystic Purities: I don't just want to make candles that smell amazing. I want to create something that makes you feel something.
And with October drawing to a close, I couldn't think of a better candle to begin our journey with than Dragon's Blood.
She's bold. She's mysterious. And she has a story to tell.
01 | THE FRAGRANCE
There's Something About Dragon's Blood...
Let's start with the name. Doesn't it immediately spark a little curiosity?
Dragon's Blood takes its name from the deep red resins of several tree species, traditionally used in incense, dyes, and ceremonial practices across different cultures.
Over time, the fragrance has become associated with strength, protection, courage, and transformation.
Those associations are part of what draws me to it.
When I think of Dragon's Blood, I think of a fragrance that commands attention without asking permission. Something warm, mysterious, and full of character.
And that's the feeling I wanted to capture.
Not every candle needs to be soft and delicate. Sometimes you want something that reminds you to stand tall, trust yourself, and own the space you're in.
The intention: Confidence, courage, and reclaiming your personal power.
02 | THE COLOR
Why That Deep, Beautiful Red?
Color has always been one of my favorite ways to give a candle its own personality.
And Dragon's Blood? She was never going to be pale pink!
That deep crimson red carries a beautiful history of symbolism.
Red has long been associated with vitality, passion, strength, courage, and the fire that keeps us moving forward.
It's the color of determination. Of taking action. Of finding that spark within yourself when life tries to dim it.
I love how the rich red wax looks against the dark stones and hibiscus. There's something dramatic about that combination, but it also feels grounded and intentional.
For me, the color represents the strength we carry, even during seasons when we're still discovering it.
03 | THE STONES
Black Obsidian & Black Tourmaline: A Powerful Pair
Now, let's talk crystals. Because you know I couldn't create Dragon's Blood without giving her a little extra personality!
I chose Black Obsidian and Black Tourmaline, two stones with a long-standing place in traditions centered on grounding and protection.
Black Obsidian — The Mirror
Formed when volcanic lava cools rapidly, obsidian has a naturally dark, glasslike appearance.
Symbolically, it's often connected with truth, reflection, and the courage to face what we'd rather avoid.
I think there's something beautiful about that.
Sometimes protecting your peace starts with being honest with yourself about what belongs in your life—and what doesn't.
Black Tourmaline — The Guardian
Black Tourmaline is traditionally associated with protection, grounding, and personal boundaries.
I think of it as a reminder that we can be kind, loving, and openhearted while still being selective about the energy and influences we welcome into our space.
Together, these two stones represent something I value deeply:
Knowing yourself, trusting yourself, and protecting your peace.
Sometimes a meaningful symbol is enough to remind us of the intentions we've chosen.
04 | THE BOTANICAL
Hibiscus: Beauty with a Little Fire
There's a reason I love incorporating botanicals into my candles.
They add texture, beauty, and another layer of storytelling.
For Dragon's Blood, I chose hibiscus.
Hibiscus has been admired across cultures for its vibrant blossoms and is often associated symbolically with love, passion, beauty, and feminine strength.
To me, hibiscus brings something important to this candle.
It softens the intensity without taking away its power.
Because strength doesn't always have to be hard.
You can be gentle and still have boundaries. You can be beautiful and still be fierce.
And sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do is simply stand confidently in who you are.
05 | BEHIND THE POUR
So, Why Did I Put Them All Together?
Here's where it all comes together.
When I was designing Dragon's Blood, I wanted every element to speak the same language.
The fragrance brings mystery and confidence.
The deep red wax represents courage and vitality.
Black Obsidian brings the symbolism of reflection and truth.
Black Tourmaline represents grounding and protection.
And hibiscus reminds us that beauty and strength can exist together.
None of these choices were random.
I wanted Dragon's Blood to feel like a quiet reminder that your peace is worth protecting, your boundaries deserve respect, and there's nothing wrong with taking up space in your own life.
And if lighting a candle helps you carve out five minutes to remember that?
Well, Mystic Tribe, I'd call that time well spent. 💜
06 | THE MYSTIC MOMENT
A Little Reflection for the Season
As October comes to an end and we move toward the quieter months of the year, I find myself thinking about the things we carry.
Some things nourish us. Others weigh us down.
This season has long been associated with endings, reflection, and the transition into something new.
So here's a little invitation from me to you.
Find a quiet moment. Pour yourself a cup of tea. Light your favorite candle somewhere safe, away from anything flammable, and ask yourself:
What am I ready to let go of?
What deserves more of my energy?
And what am I ready to welcome into the next chapter of my life?
You don't need an elaborate ritual or the perfect words.
Just a moment of honesty with yourself.
Sometimes that's where the real magic begins.
UNTIL OUR NEXT POUR...
Thank you for joining me for the very first issue of The Mystic Journal.
This is just the beginning!
In the coming months, we'll explore more of the fragrances, stones, colors, and botanicals that inspire my creations. I'll share some of the stories behind the designs, little bits of history and symbolism, and maybe even a few surprises along the way.
I want this to be more than a newsletter. I want it to be a place where curiosity is welcome, intention matters, and our Mystic Tribe feels right at home.
Until next time, stay curious, protect your peace, and never forget the magic you bring into the world.
With love, light, and a little mystery,
Mystic Purities 💜
